Football Finals

Our Girls' Football season is coming to an end, and Mercedes College has reached the finals in both the Open and Middle divisions!

Last night, our Open Girls' team took on Trinity College, in a bid to take out third place.

Elevated mid-season to Division A, our girls have shown immense growth and resilience against some of the best football schools in the state. They did us all proud by winning their final match 94 - 13!

Our Middle Girls' team have had an outstanding season, and are undefeated going into their Grand Final against St Paul's College this Friday.

You can support them by getting down to Springbank College - the game starts at 4.10pm.

Go Camels!

Life is a Cabaret…

Year 11 student Pallas (McAuley) ended her exclusive six-month Cabaret Festival Mentorship with a performance at the Dunstan Playhouse over the weekend.

One of only 16 participants from more than 50 young people who auditioned, Pallas has been working with industry professionals to hone her performance skills and develop the art of storytelling through music - which is the magic of Cabaret as an art form.

Pallas added her young artist’s voice to the final show, which took the audience on a journey through the demands of expectation, with poignant and often humorous results.

20 of our Performing Arts students attended the show to support Pallas and celebrate her fantastic achievement – congratulations!

Jensen’s in Racing Form

He may not be old enough to get his car license yet, but Jensen (Year 9, Dalton) is a master on the racetrack!

With two rounds of Formula Ford in the bag, and a third round in Perth this weekend, Jensen has also recently blitzed the competition in Formula 4, with his second round coming up at The Bend.

Some experts are already drawing parallels between Jensen and Australian F1 driver Oscar Piastri, who showed similar talents at a similar age.

Piastri is currently leading the 2025 F1 World Championship, and we are sure the world is ready for more Australian driving talent on the F1 circuit.

We shall keep an eye on Jensen's racing achievements!

Performers On Show

Next week, families have the opportunity to see our Performing Arts students shine, in one of two concerts in Gleeson Theatre.

On Monday evening, Urban Rhythms will showcase curriculum and co-curricular learning, in a programme curated by our Year 10 Drama students.

It will feature performances by Music, Drama, and Dance students, whose work will aim to communicate key messages against the backdrop of rhythms found in urban settings.

On Tuesday, our Junior School families are invited to watch our younger music students in an afternoon performance featuring our CEA ensembles, and our Year 3 Strings Immersion participants.

Winter Generosity

Thank you to our community for getting into the spirit of last week’s Beanie Day – all funds raised will go to the Circle of Friends in support of refugees and asylum seekers.

Beanie Day is the official beginning of our support of the Vinnies Winter Appeal, and we are actively collecting non-perishable foods, blankets, toiletries, to help vulnerable South Australians during these bitterly cold months.

Please click here to see a guide of what can be donated.

Collections are taking place in Home Groups, Administration Receptions, and the Carmel Bourke Library. We know that our community will again get behind this annual appeal and we look forward to sharing your donations with Vinnies next term.

Term 3 Instrumental Tuition

As we prepare for the second half of the year, our Performing Arts team encourages families to consider the joy and benefits of learning a musical instrument.

Whether your child is just starting out, or continuing with their musical journey, now is the perfect time to sign up for Term 3 private tuition.

We have 20 Tutors who are passionate about sharing their expertise in a range of disciplines – in Brass, Drums, Guitar, Piano, Strings, Voice, and Woodwind – with instrument hire available through the College.

Music is food for the soul - so dive in and try something new!

Check 'Mercedes' Mate

Last week, our Primary Chess teams played against each other - so it was a guaranteed Mercedes College victory!

Students are enjoying the challenge of learning the strategy behind this ancient game, and we wish them luck on the rest of their season.
